Proper Built created a stylish and energy-efficient Gardenhouse accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Southeast Portland, Oregon. This project focused on combining functionality with modern design, resulting in a comfortable and sustainable space that complements the property.
The exterior features Nakamoto Forestry’s Shou Sugi Ban siding, treated with an alkaline stain for a striking, contemporary look. The blackened wood finish not only enhances aesthetics but also offers durability and weather resistance. High-performance materials from 475, including the Adhero 3000 weather-resistive barrier, Mento Plus air barrier, and flashing tapes and sealants, provide superior energy efficiency and long-lasting protection against the elements.
Natural light and seamless indoor-outdoor connections were prioritized using Marvin windows, double-swing French doors, and a 4-panel sliding door. These high-quality fixtures enhance the space’s openness and create a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
This thoughtfully designed Gardenhouse ADU blends modern style with eco-conscious building practices, providing a versatile, functional addition to the home.
