Proper Built transformed this backyard in Northeast Portland, OR, into a stunning and functional outdoor living space. The original area featured a dilapidated steel carport cover on a cracked concrete slab, with an old cedar deck and stairs that led into a muddy yard. The homeowner wanted a cohesive, inviting space that seamlessly connected the interior and exterior without tracking mud into the home.

We replaced the failing carport with a sleek, detached cover featuring a durable charcoal grey standing seam metal roof. The new design extends into a reimagined deck system accented with custom borders for added elegance.

The deck system integrates multiple levels. The upper deck now flows onto a new ground-level deck zone that eliminates the muddy transition and enhances usability. Steel railings with custom-stained cedar top caps add durability and a touch of warmth. LED riser lights and color-changing puck lights create a welcoming ambiance for evening use.

This complete overhaul turned an uninviting backyard into a seamless home extension, perfect for relaxation or entertaining.
